This follows our discussions with members of the Bundestag and the Federal Ministry of Culture and Media (BKM) regarding the future of federal funding in the field of remembrance culture.<\/p>\n This is based on our two flagship projects: the NaziCrimesAtlas<\/strong> and the digital cataloging of Nazi memorial sites in Bavaria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Both organizations carry out work for which there is no reliable funding available under existing federal funding programs. Anyone working without basic institutional funding falls through the cracks\u2014this applies to us as well as to many other smaller organizations dedicated to remembrance. <\/p>\n Just how limited the representation of this field is at the federal level can be seen in the index itself. As of June 20, 2026, a keyword search for \u201cculture of remembrance\u201d yields eight entries, three of which relate to Nazi history and its reappraisal. A separate search for \u201cmemorial sites\u201d yields two additional results. That\u2019s all there is. We want to change that. <\/p>\n Upon registration, we take on two responsibilities:<\/p>\n We bring together the concerns of smaller, non-institutionally funded organizations dedicated to remembrance and present them to the Bundestag and the Federal Government. At the same time, as a specialized organization, we are available to provide information and advice to members of parliament, ministries, foundations, local government agencies, and colleagues in the field. <\/p>\n Anyone who regularly or on an ongoing basis discusses funding programs or legal frameworks with members of the Bundestag, parliamentary groups, or the federal government\u2014down to the level of division heads in the ministries\u2014is required to register under the Lobby Registry Act. As soon as these contacts go beyond individual cases, voluntary registration is no longer an option. <\/p>\n The registry publicly shows who we are, where our funding comes from, and what causes we advocate for. This transparency is part of the process. <\/p>\nRegistration is mandatory \u2014 and transparency in action<\/h2>\n
