The Kronenringe Residency is a new artist-in-residence program for emerging jewelry artists that will take place in the original workshop of the late goldsmith and jewelry designer Barbara Helleis in Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria. “Crown rings” refers to a special design of rings by Barbara Helleis. Barbara Helleis’ crown rings have become a trademark of her work.

Obituary for Barbara Helleis
“A goldsmith with a lot of heart and a love of crowns”, was the title of the editor’s article. She got to the heart of the workshop and the work. Read the article about the goldsmith.

Crown ring residency

Each year, three artists are selected for a four-month residency, which includes the following:

  • Free accommodation in a fully equipped 40 m² studio apartment
  • Free access to the professional jewelry workshop by Barbara Helleis
  • Use of materials from her personal collection (gemstones, chains, tools, semi-finished parts)
  • A monthly living stipend of € 700 and a travel allowance of up to € 500
  • An exhibition at the end of the residency in Landsberg am Lech
  • The first residency begins in October 2025.

The focus of the residency is on artistic research, design development and professional development in the field of contemporary jewelry art. Own production is encouraged, but not mandatory. Artists are supported by a panel of professional mentors and networked with the local and regional art scene.

The Kronenringe Residency is unique in its scope: it offers jewelry artists not only a rare, fully equipped private goldsmith’s studio with historical continuity, but also direct access to a vibrant community of clients, colleagues and supporters. The aim is to promote craftsmanship, artistic freedom and the combination of tradition and innovation.

Themes of the residences

Jewelry design moves between the poles of art, design and craftsmanship. This broad spectrum is deliberately reflected in the focus of the individual residencies. The aim is to make the diversity of approaches and the dynamic interface between art and craft visible.

For this reason, the residencies each have a different thematic focus, which also determines the orientation of the calls:

  • Art
  • Art & Craft
  • Craft & Art
  • Craft

The result is a lively forum that opens up different perspectives on contemporary jewelry design and promotes creative developments in all areas.

Working languages:
  • English
  • German
Duration of stay:
  • 4 months
  • Three months in residence, two weeks at the beginning and two weeks at the end to settle in and familiarize yourself with the work and to stage the exhibition.
